L.I.F.E., or Language Independent Functional Evaluation, is a toolset for evaluating a patients functional abilities before and during treatment–without the constraints of language. The evaluation toolset was designed based on the Barthel Index for daily living and mobility, which determines a baseline level of functionality. Though the tools were designed medical rehabilitation in all languages, translation of the Barthel Index into non-European languages met confusion. The 3D Lab helped by transforming the original 2D animations into 3D, adding in background environments, and simplifying the interface to improve user experience. L.I.F.E. has since met great success in Ghana and Mongolia.
