The University of Michigan 3D Lab currently opperates a Microscribe GX2 3D digitizer. This device uses a contact probe to record points in 3d space dirrectly into 3d computer modeling software. By touching the probe to the surface of an object and depressing a foot pedal to recdcord the point in space, a digital representation of the object is generated. |

This low cost system is best suited for a "rough sketch" digitization, as the device has a repeatable accuracy of 0.5mm. Enineering work can be aided by this device, as it is capable of recording a number of points quickly, which can be validated or adjusted by mannual measurement. Our users can interface the device directly from Solid Works or Maya modeling packages with High Res plug-in software, or an array of x,y,z, 3 point float values can be recorded for other uses. Please contact lab staff for further information. |
