Professor Daniel Fisher has one of the rarest collections of Mastodon skeletal remains in the world. His collection was complete except for a few pieces. The University of Michigan 3D Lab worked with his team and the existing remains to scan them into the computer and apply texture to give them a realistic appearance. Using the UM3D Lab's Rapid Prototyping services the femur was mirrored and printed out as a replacement for one of the missing legs. The model can now be seen at the University of Michigan Natural History Musuem as part of the complete mastodon skeleton on display.

In addition to providing missing parts to the mastodon skeleton, the entire digital skeleton was digitally assembled and visualized on the lab's various visualization technologies. One can now stand next to a digital mastodon in full scale, compare the size of it's large tusks, or look at the environment from the mamoth's point of view using the Virtual Reality MIDEN.
